IAS and IPS are the two most important and popular All India Services which exist before the independence of the country. The debate of IAS vs IPS is also age-old because both the service serve as the backbone for the development of the nation. Revenue and Law and Order are the two most important components of the state administration and it is concerned with the IAS and IPS. Development and Security both are indispensable for the growth of the country. IAS and IPS are the two pillars of development and security in India. The candidates for both services are recruited through a common exam (Civil Services Exam) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

What is IAS(INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE)?

The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the administrative arm of the Government of India. Considered the premier most civil service of India, the IAS is one of the three arms of the All India Services along with the Indian Police Service and the Indian Forest Service. Members of these three services serve the Government of India as well as the individual states. IAS officers may also be deployed to various public sector undertakings and international organizations.

What is IPS(INDIAN POLICE SERVICE)?

The Indian Police Service (IPS) is a civil service under the All India ServiceIt replaced the Indian Imperial Police in 1948, a year after India became independent from the British Raj.

Along with the Indian Administrative Service(IAS) and the Indian Forest Service (IFS), the IPS is one of the All India Service. its officers can be employed by both the union government and the individual states.

The service commands and provides leadership to state and union territories’ police forces, Central Armed Police Forces (BSF, SSB, CRPF, CISF, and ITBP), National Security Guards (NSG), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), National Investigative Agency(NIA), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

IPS Officers are trained at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) located in Hyderabad, Telangana
